Health Care: a coworking-friendly solution

Recent discussions on the coworking list have explored the cost and availability of health care for freelancers and related professionals working within the coworking community. Which is to say, outside traditional venues of employment.
There has been no consensus formed of the most viable options, which means there is a lot of opportunity in this space for innovation.
The importance of the issue is difficult to understate. In my case, being able to acquire reasonably priced health care is a make or break business decision. If it's too expensive, I won't be able to freelance. In fact, I believe for many people, access to health care is one very high hurdle keeping them in wage slavery and out of being phenomenally happier and more productive as an independent worker or freelancer.

we here at the hatfactory wanted to thank everyone who stopped by at our open house on wednesday! meeting everybody was really exciting, especially since we're hoping that folks would like to join our community of writers, videomakers, coders, consultants, and all walks of independent, creative people.
we're looking forward to seeing you more often as we hold events here at the hatfactory. in the near future, we're planning on having a screening of some of the fabulous 16mm educational films that we have in our archives. we hope that you'll be able to join us!

Hat Factory Open House- Feb 28th

On February 28, Wednesday, the Hat Factory Coworking space in San Francisco is throwing its doors open to welcome interested folks who want to give us a try, for free. Come and work with us during the day, from 11 AM to 5:00 PM. Bring your laptop and that manuscript, screenplay, or killer app you've been working on and leave the crowded, loud coffee shops behind. We'll also be cooking a big meal starting around 5pm with free dinner served after 6pm. Come and eat with us! We'll have a projector set up so everyone can show off their work.

The Hat Factory now has a website. We still need to fill out some of the pages and finish up the design, but it is functional.
